Dear *|FNAME|*,

We know it can be a tricky to make a decision about which course to choose, that’s why we’ve put together a few reasons why the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at The University of Sheffield is the perfect place to study.

1. An amazing student experience

In the last National Student Survey our overall rating of satisfaction was 90% which made us the top ranked among Russell Group institutions in the country.
Sheffield was also recently named the UK’s friendliest city, the Students’ Union was voted the UK’s best for a NINTH year in a row and the University was voted the best Russell Group university for student experience.

2. A great start to your career

95% of our students find jobs in the profession after they graduate and have an average salary of £23,000. You’ll find them working for the biggest names in planning and property including CBRE and Savills, as well as leading international organisations like Oxfam.

Our dedicated employability team also provide bespoke support to help you find placements with top organisations, and help equip you with the skills you’ll need and employers want.

3. Explore the world

Our students have the opportunity to travel the world as part of a Study Abroad year. You could be revising on the beach in Brisbane, or spending a weekend in Chicago during a year studying at the University of Illinois.

With the Erasmus programme, you can spend time in Europe with a term at universities in Denmark, France or Italy. If you don’t want to spend a term or year abroad, there’s still chances to get out of Sheffield with the first year field trip, currently to Edinburgh, and the second year field trip which went to Holland this year.

4. RTPI Accredited Course

Our MPlan Urban Studies and Planning course is accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).

On successful completion of the 4-year MPlan course you will have the academic qualification required to become a Chartered Town Planner. You will be eligible to become a Royal Town Planning Institute Licentiate member on graduation, and able to apply to become a full Chartered Town Planner after two years full-time relevant planning experience.

5. World-leading research

You’ll be taught by staff who are researching major urban issues across the world. In the last Research Excellence Framework in 2014, 85% of our research was recognised as ‘world leading with outstanding impacts’. That makes us the top RTPI accredited Planning School in the UK for research. By being at the forefront of the field, we can ensure our teaching reflects the latest work in the discipline.
